Abstract

Drawing upon the Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory, this research investigates the determinants of electric vehicle (EV) adoption in Algeria, based on an empirical study of 394 licensed drivers. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings underscore that perceived relative advantage is a pivotal driver of adoption. This advantage emerges as a critical determinant, underpinned by expectations of long-term fuel savings and the superior energy efficiency inherent to these vehicles. Furthermore, perceived triability exerts a significant positive influence on adoption, suggesting that the opportunity to personally experience EV technology reduces the risk associated with this transition. These results provide strategic insights for Algerian policymakers to formulate regulations aligned with consumer behavior, while enabling EV manufacturers and importers to calibrate their strategies in accordance with market expectations.
