Abstract

The development of new products in modern industry requires the simultaneous consideration of process efficiency, environmental requirements, and the social responsibility of innovation. Design for Assembly (DfA) and Design for Disassembly (DfD) represent key methods supporting design optimization – the former focuses on cost reduction and simplification of assembly operations, while the latter enables easy servicing, recovery, and recycling of materials. Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), in turn, emphasizes the need to anticipate technological consequences, engage stakeholders, and integrate ethical values and sustainability into the process of creating new products. Existing studies do not indicate a systematic integration of RRI principles with DfA and DfD practices, which represents a significant research gap. The aim of this paper is therefore to address this gap by developing a model and a roadmap for implementing RRI in the new product development process, which consistently integrates aspects of social responsibility with the principles of design for assembly and disassembly. The proposed solutions may support engineers and innovation managers in combining technical efficiency, sustainability, and social responsibility, as well as outline directions for further research and practical applications in industry.
