Abstract

Low voltage electrical devices are affected on overvoltages occurred in low voltage networks and in medium voltage networks. Analysis of overvoltages in low voltage networks is very
important due to increasing number of low voltage equipment and increasing demands on electrical reliability. Overvoltages occurred in medium voltage networks are transferred through power transformer windings to low voltage networks. Transformer windings behave as non linear electromagnetic coupled elements. Origin of transferred overvoltages with biggest maximal values are lightning overvoltages to overhead lines. Main research area in this field of study is made with computer simulations which uses high frequency models. This paper presents analysis of lightning overvoltages transferred to low voltages netwoks through power transformer windings made by simulations performed in Electromagnetic Transients Program-Alternative Transients Program (EMTP-ATP). Simulations uses high frequency transformer model which was developed with measured frequency characteristics. Analysis of influence of metal oxide surge arresters on maximal values of overvoltages transferred to low voltage windings was done.
