Abstract

The article presents a modular structure of a painting machine that allows the painting of images using a set of brushes in a manner similar to classical painting techniques used by visual artists. The robot's task is to paint images based on a copy of the original recorded in a digital form in a graphic file. Painting is done using oil or acrylic paints on a flat surface (canvas, terracotta, tiles, wallpaper, paper). Thanks to developed algorithms and a complex kinematic structure, the robot has the ability to move the brush in a way that imitates human hand movements, which are different depending on the given effect or style of created graphics, as well as selecting and mixing paint to obtain any colour. The robot enables the automatic reproduction of paintings and graphics on canvas imitating the work of a live artist - a copyist.
