Abstract

The article presents selected issues of welded joints and adhesive joints strength of structural steel S235JR. Joints were compared in terms of effectiveness, where criterion for determining was shear strength and value of destructive force. The subject of the study were three types of welded joints: butt, single-lap with single weld, single-lap with double welds, as well as two types of adhesive joints: butt and single-lap. Joined samples were made of S235JR steel sheet with a thickness of 4 mm. Welded joints were made by used inverter welder ADLER MMA-200. Welded joints were prepared by the arc welding with coated electrode classifiable according to PN-EN ISO 2560:2006-E38 A RC 12. In the case of adhesive joints, two-component epoxy adhesive consisting of epoxy resin Epidian 57 and hardener Z1 connected in a weight ratio of 100:10. Surface of all samples were preparation by removing uneven from edges of sheets with angle grinder, to remove impurities using cleaner and rust removal surface Fosol and then degreased with Loctite 7063. Strength test were carried out according to EN DIN 1465. Obtained test results pointed out the differences in the strength values obtained depending on the method of joining, as well as geometry of the made joints. Based on results observed that better results were achieved for welded joints and thus their effectiveness was higher, but in most of welded joints was observed corrosion at the joint, which was not observed in the case of adhesive joints.
