Aims & Scope
Chemical Technology & Biotechnology is a journal dedicated to publishing high-quality papers related to chemistry, chemical technology, chemical engineering and biotechnology as well as traditional subjects of organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry. Journal is also accepting papers from the following fields: computational chemistry and biotechnology, theoretical chemistry, material chemistry, nanomaterials, environmental and green chemistry, polymer chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, surface chemistry and medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, electrochemistry and all topics in applied chemistry. The submission of manuscripts in the multidisciplinary research fields at the interface of chemistry and other fields (chemical biology, materials science, nanotechnology) is also encouraged. In addition to full-length research articles and communications, Chemical Technology & Biotechnology also publishes review articles.
Chemical Technology & Biotechnology is committed to publishing original research in all areas of chemistry through a fair and rigorous review process. As a fully open access journal, we ensure that our research is highly discoverable and instantly available globally to everyone. Our peer-review process is single-blind, meaning that the reviewers know the identity of the authors, but the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers. This model helps ensure objective and unbiased evaluation. We also provide constructive feedback to authors, helping them to improve the quality and impact of their research. We adhere to the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) and provide immediate open access to all articles published in our journal. This allows for greater visibility and impact of the research articles we publish, promoting greater collaboration and exchange of ideas among researchers and scientists worldwide. We also support the sharing and reuse of data, encouraging authors to make their data openly available, where possible.
Article types are:
- review article (15-30 standard A4 pages*)
- communication (with experimental data, 3-4 standard A4 pages*)
- normal article (6-12 standard A4 pages*) *Standard page contains approx. 1800 characters
Normal articles also known as full papers are original research papers reporting new discoveries that lead to a deeper understanding of any aspect of covered by the journal scope. Full papers are invited in the following sections, but these are not exclusive:
- chemistry and chemical technology
- chemical engineering
- biotechnology in chemistry
Detailed description of the review process
This journal uses a single-blind peer review process involving a minimum of two independent reviewers.
After the initial screening by the Editorial Office (to assess compliance with the journal’s scope, formatting requirements, and basic quality standards), the manuscript is assigned to a Scientific Editor (Deputy Editor, Editor-in-Chief, or a member of the Editorial Board). The selection of the Scientific Editor is based on their scientific expertise, knowledge, and experience in the subject area of the submitted manuscript.
The Scientific Editor independently selects at least two reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. In exceptional cases, the Scientific Editor may serve as one of the reviewers, in which case at least one additional independent reviewer is appointed.
The review procedure is single-blind, meaning that:
-
Reviewers know the identity of the authors,
-
Authors do not know the identity of the reviewers.
Reviewer identities are not disclosed to the authors.
Reviewers evaluate the manuscript with regard to originality, scientific quality, methodological soundness, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
Based on the reviewers’ reports, the Scientific Editor makes one of the following decisions:
-
Accept without revisions,
-
Accept with minor revisions,
-
Revise and resubmit (major revisions),
-
Reject.
Reviews are submitted in written form through the journal’s electronic submission system. The Scientific Editor determines the review deadlines and oversees the entire review process.
If only minor editorial corrections are required, the manuscript is forwarded to the Journal Secretary for final processing and publication on the journal’s website. The final decision on publication rests with the Editor-in-Chief.
If a review contains critical remarks or requests for revision, the Scientific Editor communicates the reviewers’ comments to the author. The author is required to revise the manuscript accordingly and submit a detailed written response explaining how each comment has been addressed. If the author disagrees with a reviewer’s remark, a reasoned justification must be provided in the response letter.
A manuscript may be accepted for publication only after receiving positive recommendations from at least two independent reviewers, or after satisfactory revision addressing the reviewers’ comments.
In the case of conflicting recommendations (e.g., one positive and one negative review), the Editorial Committee evaluates the reports and may appoint a third independent reviewer before making a final decision.
The final editorial decision (acceptance or rejection) is communicated to the author by the Scientific Editor. Decisions are based on the scientific merit of the manuscript, the reviewers’ evaluations, and compliance with the journal’s standards. The Editor-in-Chief supervises the integrity and proper conduct of the review process.
All reviews and related correspondence are treated as confidential and are handled through the journal’s electronic submission system.
After revision, authors must submit:
-
the updated version of the manuscript,
-
a detailed response to reviewers,
-
a completed and signed Author’s Statement form.
All submitted manuscripts are routinely screened for plagiarism using appropriate detection tools prior to acceptance.
